joint mortgage payment insurance: does it exist?

My husband was off sick from work with a slipped disc from sep09-nov09. He was cleared to return to work, and has been in full time employment since. As a result our savings have been zapped, and to safe guard our future we are looking to take out some insurance. However after trawling the internet for several hours, we have been unsuccessful in finding any companys who offer joint policies, let alone with someone who has a known medical condition! Can anyone offer any advice?
