Is the council tax bill in your name or both names? generally if there are 2 people living in a property the council would prefer it to be in both names as it gives them twice as much chance of getting the money back as they can then chase either you or your partner.
IF it is in joint names then they may decide to issue an attachment of earnings against your partner. This is done on a more you earn the more you pay back kind of system.
With regards to your offer the council will want a) you to keep up with your new years payments and b) they will probably want everything tied up by the end of the council tax year - ie last payments in January. If you can try and keep next years payments up-to-date ie 2010/11 it will save you having more fees added on next year.
With regards to the benefits etc how long is it before you can claim benefits? I thought there was a cut off - ie you can claim for the first 6 months or something? worth looking into - also perhaps a claim for constructive dismissal?

Thanks - yes it is in both our names

I wouldnt call it constructive dismissal, I was very stressed & depressed, I suffer from depression anyway (have done since I was a teen) but we were so short staffed and id taken lots of time off, I jumped before I was pushed but Im still on good terms with my manager and she says she'll call if anything comes up in the future
