Evening everyone
Just wanted to ask how many people here hold down a full time job as well as taking on a 2nd part time job to help pay towards your debts, And if you do hold down a 2nd job as well what do you do ?
I currently work full time in an office from 7:30 to 4pm so i think it's time to start looking for a part time evening or weekend job
i'm 26 and live at home i'll be debt free in 2012 which isn't bad considering i owe 14k:eek:
Just looking to be proactive- after all if i can't cut down anything i have to bring more money in, more money in means i'll be able to pay off my debts move out sooner and start living independantly :T

I love your username!
I have a full time job that is great fun but can be stressful at times and I sometimes need to work late at very short notice. Because of this I don't want to commit to a "proper" 2nd job like barwork / shop work etc. I use my spare time to do things like ebaying, mystery shopping, free bingo and quidco offers. This works well for me as if it's busy / stressful at my full time job then I can cut back on any of the above for a week or so til things calm down without letting down an employer.0 -
Hey
I work as a personal assistant every other weekend - I start at 9pm at night and finish at 8am, but I do get to sleep (basically, I'm next door if the person needs me due to their health needs). It's good pay as I get anti-social hours so I make an extra £233 a month! I've only ever been up through the night twice in a years when the person was ill.
I found that job on the job centre website, it was posted by DWP.
Before that I was mystery shopping and looking for cleaning jobs either before or after work. I didn't want to do call centre or shop work as I didn't want to commit to days every weekend - the thought of working a 7 day week for an undefined period nearly sent me over the edge!
I thought about bar work as I used to be a bar manager but I need to make my current job aware of any second job and I need to be on the ball for it too, so I didn't think late nights wouls suit - or that my boss would be happy!
I was also annoyed that I'd never done amything like beautician, Indian Head massage courses, dress alterations... anything that might have meant I could have set up my own wee thing and suited myself with regards to hours!Jan10: 28,315.81 Jan11: 18,015.32 Jan12: 7,682.58 Jan13: 2,987.73 Current debt: 1,225.55

Hi just thought that I would l tell you that I started a 2nd job towards the end of last year in what I thought would just be Christmas temp position, but have been kept on. I am a PA by day and although only contracted for Sundays have been able to do a few hours in the evenings. My 2nd job is in retail one of the large high street chains and I really do enjoy it. Had been in retail for 7 years and the unsocialable hours do become a chore eventually so wouldn't want to stay here permanently. The pay isn't great but it is helping and mentally makes me feel better. Good luck in whatever you decide to do. And heres hoping that we will all be debt free one day x:j I belong to Mike's Mob :j0

Up until the last few weeks I had a second job with a nursing agency. For my regular job i work 37.5 hours a week split into four shifts over the week. On one of my three days off i would work for the agency taking charge of a wing in a nursing home. I could do as little as one shift a month or if i had leave from my main job i could work 8 shifts.
It wasn't physically hard work but a lot of responsibility. I was being taxed at 40 % as the extra income pushed me into a higher tax bracket. The agency was very busy as although they were more expensive than most they had a reputation for having the best staff.
However this winter has taken its toll , The bad weather meaning earlier starts and later finishes wore me out, the agency constantly ringing because they knew I could drive and wouldn't be affected by public transport failures. An incident at a home where a permanent staff member dumped me in an awkward situation of her making leaving me to sort it and I suddenly felt it wasn't worth it.
I would like to do something even just to keep me busy and out of the shops ! But my availability is irregular and i'm well put off the homes now. May ask at asda about checkouts , i fancy nosying at what other people have bought. When it rains look for RainbowsWhen its Dark look for Stars0 -
I used to work the Friday and Saturday night shift (11pm-7am) at a motorway services. I did this for about 8 months, it was fun but it took it's toll. Working all day Friday trying to leave the day job as close to 4pm as possible to rush home to get a few hours sleep before my 11pm start at the services. Very often it was 6pm before I got home and went straight to bed, it was hard to sleep in the summer months when there was always kids playing outside. I'd get home about 7.15am and collapse into bed till about 1pm then get up and do housework, nip in to town etc. I'd then get my head down about 5pm-6pm for a few hours before starting again on Saturday night. All I did on Sundays was sleep, supermarket run and sleep again. I was so knackered all the time over the weekend and was so paranoid about it not interfering with my day job.
This was many years ago, I don't think I could do it now. Yeah, I'd like to be debt free one day, but I aint gonna kill myself doing it! I'm getting there, slowly but surely.
Good luck to all who are looking for a 2nd job.

Hi Misspixie,
I do a normal 9-5 job during the day, but in the evenings I work as a freelance typist, transcribing audio tapes for Universities and Transcription Companies. You get to choose your own hours, which suits me, and you get to work from home. The work is really boring and it does mean you don't get much in the way of an evening and get home from work only to have to do more work throughout the evening, but the extra income is a major help. And I do get to keep my weekends completely free as I plan my own hours out.
If you're a fast typer this might be for you. Try emailing round transcription companies to see if they have any work for you. Usual pay is about £5 per hour for companies, but Universities pay considerably more (two or three times as much, usually).
In the past I have also done a second job working in a bar on Friday and Saturday nights, and I also used to work in an office for three hours in the morning before my 'proper' job, just doing filing and paperwork. I'd still be there now if I hadn't been made redundant because it was easy money.
I think it goes without saying though that whatever you do, be prepared to be rather knackered!
