Halifax Credit Card increased charges

Hi,
I had a letter from Halifax giving me the statutory 30 notice of a 5% increase in my compund and APR rates from 13.9% to 18.95%.
In the letter they gave the option to 'close' the account to keep the interest rate static - basically converting it from a credit card to a loan.

I've literally just called them to tell them to close the account and get stuffed and they immediately excluded me from the increase without effecting my account status! No arguments, quibbles or anythings; just offered before I could say anything

Is it me, or have they written to people hoping that the letter is ignored so they can put up the rates (would have cost me an additional £30pcm in interest) but immediately taking the increase away for those that query it?

Or am I just special :A

When this happened in the past i just called them and told them in no uncertain terms to not raise my interest. And they did it.

Don't go in there charging in like a bull in a china shop threatening to leave, that leaves you open to them calling your bluff.

Like my father said, don't pull out a gun unless you intend to use it

The charges are increasing becuase you are seen as a risk.
It has nothing to do with hoping no-one notices.
