can ask them to stop calling?

I have a few debts, about £500 worth and they are torturing me for payment.

I'm currently suffering from some mental difficulties and have written to the companies asking them to deal with me via letters rather than the phone. One of the companies phoned me and said that they would need to speak with me. my husband told them that i was unable to talk to them over the phone and they asked for me to call them back.

can i insist that they write instead of calling? can get a letter from doctor is they need it.

OFT Guidlines are that they have to us the means of communication you request. Not perfect but...

With respect to your health, if this is serious, they should not even be writing.

Also, worth noting if you have mental health issues they should not visit you as you maybe considered vulnerable.

    Debt collection visits
2.11 Those visiting debtors must not act in an unclear or threatening manner.
2.12 Examples of unfair practices are:
    a. not making the purpose of any proposed visit clear, for example, merely
stating that collectors or field agents will call is not sufficient
    b. visiting a debtor when it is known they are vulnerable, for example, when
a doctor's certificate has been provided stating that the debtor is ill
    c. continuing with a visit when it becomes apparent that the debtor is
distressed or otherwise vulnerable, for example, it becomes apparent that
the debtor has mental health problems

There are two ways of constructing a software design: One way is to make it so simple that there are obviously no deficiencies, and the other way is to make it so complicated that there are no obvious deficiencies
