Options
my sister used her debit card to top up her 02 mobile, a few days later she checked her bank balance to find a £30 payment to 02's prepay, she rang them and they weren't helpful at all they threatened her with legal action after keeping her on hold for an hour. shes sticking to e top up from now and thinking of changing networks.

Threatening her with legal action for what? I assume she didn't want to top up £30?

My boss phoned o2 to pay a bill then found out the staff member used her card details to buy stuff over the internet(it was traced back to him) and o2 didn't care.

You do realise all you need to do is contact your bank and explain it's fraud

They will send you out some forms. (you will need to make a statement saying exactly what happened)

The police may then investigate (unlikley - too small an amount)

(You will be refunded the money)

If the police investigated, and found out you were lying you could get done for fraud. (it's a very serious thing)

It's called a charge-back and you can do it on a credit card or debit card

(what is most likely is 02 will have a look at what numbers were dialled using the stolen funds.. that way they'll be able to nail the people that did it)

And I'm sure it's not just 02 that his this problem. It's a problem with dishonest people in society. Your banks job is to protect you from fraud (which is what this is)

    Who do you bank with?

I think that O2 would or should care, perhaps a more carefully targeted complaint is in order? Bad press like this would be very damaging for them.

I'm sure I've read about this before on MSE, it was always £30 taken from the phone user's account when they topped up, or used top up cards (I think). I think the other ones were Orange.

Might be worth, OP , doing a few searches around MSE to find the thread, it might help.

That is fraud! You should complain, how can staff take money off their consumers? I had used O2 for over two years (Switched to Orange in Jan 05) and had no problems, but now I think I was right to switch!

Thanks clark, that was a really helpful comment.

    It's just WRONG and ignorant. It's not "zero-two" it's "O-two".
