Samsung ML1520 mono laser printer 49.99 @pcworld

this is the updated version of the propular 1510, but has 8mb of internal memory rather than the crap 2mb

this is at least 40.00 cheaper than online, inc ebuyer!

only comes with a trial size toner BUT good for about 1000 pages, unlike inkjet trial carts that are good for about 100 max

toner replacments are around 45 for genuine ones for 3000, so not as cheap as some but this is up to 1/3 the cost of some makes anyway.

also, the brother HL-1430 is 79.99....has smaller internal memory but despite the extra cost comes with a full sixed 3000 page toner cart.....new ones are 60.00 for 6000 or 40 for 3000

obviously refills are cheaper but suffer slight quality reduction.

MUCH cheaper than inkjets......inkjet carts are usually good for about 300-500 pages....and non standard ones are acceptable but not great but dirt cheap unless you have a crappy Dell (rebadged Lexmark - utter crap printers!)...not a problem if quality isnt important though

but remember these are only mono printers...colour laser are V expensive to run (at least 10 times the cost of a mono laser)......BUT think though do you really need colour....i have a seperate photo printer for that anyway.....and ill use my crappy dell/lexmark for anger management..no really perhaps one for ebay

I have one of these brill printers. Toner refill is easy to do and costs about 7.99 for 3000 prints.
Life should be a little nuts; otherwise it's just a bunch of Thursdays strung together.
  • Picked up one of these last week. Very pleased with it as it's nice and compact, quiet and bloomin' fast compared to the 10yr old laser I was using. So it's not black and silver, but hey you can't have everything for £50 I suppose. :P
  • Don't pay for expensive toner cartridges. there's a small cap in the side of the cartridge that can be lifted out with a small screwdriver. I've got the ML1750 (which takes similar cartridges) and top-ups cost just £7.99 from [glow=red,2,300]Consumable Cafe [/glow] http://!!!!!!.com/72ak2
  • Thanks alot for that link. I've never attempted refilling toner before, but at £7.99 I'd be willing to give it a go.

Also bought an Epson stylus R300 this week, so between this and the other thread on ink for it I'll save a fortune!

its quite easy, but do it in a shed or garage...as if you screw it up it gets everywhere!!

Wear face protection as well....you dont want breathe it...this stuff is only mildly worse than asbsetos.

after repplacing the toner...wash your hands very thoroughly as well...the stuff is carcagenic.....

remember some years ago a manager or rather muppet tried to replace the cartrdige but opened it up and the stuff went everywhere...it was airbone and they just stood there like lemons when i got there 5 mins later.....i immediatley ordered everyone out......i refused to fix myself on health and safety grounds....so an engineers was called....he wore protective clothing, eye goggles, and face mask and sorted it......took him 3 hours!

the manager was given a bit of a lecture.....she thought we were being ott....perhaps....then i showed he countless websites detailing the hazards....

should be ok, but fill it in a garage or shed....im over cautious with this stuff and i will remain that way.

Better to be safe than sorry!
The main thing is to keep the main thing the main thing:)
  • This offer is a regular, and is also available at Comet. It appears every three months or so around Bank Holiday sale times, Xmas, Easter, May, and August.

Samsung seem to have added the laser 3 in 1 version to the offer list, as that was £79 at PCW a few weeks ago.

There was rumoured to be a Minolta colour laser for £149 too
    Moi....? ;)

Is the cap on the cartridge the widest round plastic circle with a metal staple-like holder across it? How do you get the cap off without damaging the cartridge?

this is an old offer that has just come to the first page of Grabbit again. I am moving it to It's gone so follow ups to your question can be posted, but so people don't think it is a new offer :)

I've had this for a couple of months now (£49.99 in PC World a while back) can I refill the toner which came with it??
What I mean is, Is the toner which came a normal one??
Or do I need to be a new one, use it and then afterwards refill it???
