It can also be oral thrush in which case Vaseline will just make it worse
If you dont want to see a doctor ask the pharmacist - they can sell you an over the counter treatment0 -
It could be lack of iron or vitamin B related but, if taking a supplement for a week or so doesn't help and it won't heal, I agree with suki - best to ask a pharmacist or see your GP.

I'm agreeing with coldstreamalways on this. Pop down to the dentist just to double check whether there is a fungal infection involved so you can be given appropriate anti-fungal meds if present.Try to imagine nothing ever existed...0

By the sounds of it you have a hack. I've got one just now aswell. Its down to this horrible, cold weather. Vaeline will do nothing, its a barrier cream as such which means it doesn't moisturise. Try carmex, its working for me.0

I get this when I am tired and run down. I up my multivits, and have on occasions smeared it with marmite at bedtime, seem to help, just remember to wash in the morning!!!0

I had this some years ago - mentioned it to my GP when I was there for something else. He said it's a specific infection that needs a particular antibiotic cream which wouldn't go away with barrier creams or moisturisers - got the cream from the GP, it went away and never came back - sorry can't remember the name of the infection or the cream.0

The long and short of it is that there are lots of things that can cause a bleeding cracked area at the corner of the mouth, and the cure for one might well make a different one worse!
If it doesn't go away, then see a pharmacist first - they often offer quite sensible advice. If that doesn't sort it, then get it looked at by a dentist.
The very worst thing you can do is offer it up for an internet committee to make suggestions! (With the possible exception of letting a Dr try and treat it)
How to find a dentist.
1. Get recommendations from friends/family/neighbours/etc.
2. Once you have a short-list, VISIT the practices - dont just phone. Go on the pretext of getting a Practice Leaflet.
3. Assess the helpfulness of the staff and the level of the facilities.
4. Only book initial appointment when you find a place you are happy with.0 -
Blistex stuff in the pots is really good for chapped lips, even the OH has started to use a lipbalm. I used to put Vaseline on at night if my lips were chapped or cracked as I'm a mouth breather so I get dry mouth easily** Total debt: £6950.82 ± May NSDs 1/10 **** Fat Bum Shrinking: -7/56lbs **
**SPC 2012 #1498 -£152 and 1499 ***
I do it all because I'm scared.
