Stuck - what about a course?

Hi all, i just wanted to get some advice if possible

I have been searching for a job for a while now but no luck. I did the wrong degree and didnt realise what i wanted to do till now - i know it sounds silly and its my own fault.

I want to have a job in an IT computing field. That would be perfect. In the meantime i am applying for anything to get me by. I even applied at KFC etc but still no luck at the moment.

I am very good with computers and IT, just wanted to know if there is a course that i can do whilst i look for a job.

Or if anyone is in a similar position and what are they doing about it

Thanks :)

Do you have the money to pay for a decent course?
  • I really dont have the money myself. But my partner and parents are willing to help if it gets me out of this rut.

I would pay them back later in life to show the gratitude

That would be useful as you won't get any funding as you're already a graduate.

Do you know what area of IT you are interested in, some areas are booming and other are pretty dire at the moment.

To be successful in IT you need an analytical mind and to be good at problem solving. Employers generally want experience over bits of paper but some want both.

Check out MSc IT courses. They're aimed at graduates of other subjects that want to move into IT. They should contain a practical project element so you gain some experience of taking on a project from beginning to end.

I have found a course where i am based MSC Computing, and have been told i can apply for it. I think it is a conversation course.

The course also offers a placement year which sounds brilliant to getting experience. Thanks all for the advice.

MSc Computing sounds perfect. A one year placement should give you a good chance of a job at the end of it :-)
