how do i transfer an english reg to Northern ireland car???

hi

please help. i have just bought from dvla a personalised number plate for my fiance for valentines

but it has said that i can only put the reg on a car registered in england. the car we have is registered in northern ireland of course

it did say it would need to be registered to a car in mainland and the it could be transferred to a northern ireland car.

there is bound to be an easier way as this sounds like i need to buy an english car just to put a reg on to transfer it to our car.

someone must know something.

please please help:o

You need a donor vehicle in ENGLAND. Who did you buy the plate from ? , they normally tranfer the plate to a car in england and then on to your car in Northern Ireland. They do charge for this service and it takes around 4 weeks in total

I bougt mine from New reg and it cost very much more than the price on the web site you have to pay 2 sets of £80 for each transfer -1 on to english car then another £80 onto Ni car then they charge something like £50 to use the Donor car in england and then vat on top of everything....also the original plate cost and vat on that too......
i would ring the dvlni and ask them....

DVLA don't provide donor vehicles, where as most agents (New Reg etc...) do but as stated they charge you (£80 iirc)
The easiest way is if you have any friends/family on the mainland who would allow your plate to be transferred onto their car and back off again. It will still cost you a double transfer but unfortunately theres no way around it ... another hidden tax on NI residents :(

I bought an english plate several years ago and paied the two lots of £80 through Speedy Registrations in Lisbellaw, they are great to deal with if you give them a call i'm sure they could help you sort this all out.
