Im out of work at the moment and not claiming JSA or anything...what happens to my tax and NI payments? Do i have to keep these upto date. Dont want a problem or massive bill, when i start work again?
Can anyone advise the best thing to do?
Even if i dont sign on...do i have to tell the Job centre to keep this going?

You will not be expected to make any tax and ni payments while you are not earning.0

thanks...if i dont keep up to date with my NI though, will this cause me problems? when i start work0

As you have no income, you obviously will have no income tax to pay. You should be registering as unemployed (even if not eligible for any money) to keep your NICs up to date.0

The standard advice is to sign on at a JobCentre as soon as you become unemployed, even if you have interviews lined up. They will pay Class 1 NI on your behalf, and may help with CVS, job seeking etc.Who having known the diamond will concern himself with glass?

thankyou thats helpful....do i have to go down to the job centre to sign on or can u do it online?
..also my reason for leaving was due to a dismissal, does this make a difference to signing on??0 -
Hi, dreemgirl
Are you actually seeking paid work at the moment? If you aren't then you aren't eligible to sign on for JSA.
If you are eligible because you are seeking paid work, then the Jobcentre will need to find out the reason why you were dismissed. Was it because you did something wrong in your employment or did they have more than enough peoploe to handle the work coming in and therefore decided that someone had to go, and it was you?
I believe the jobcentre will contact your former employers to establish the facts. While they do this though they will set in train arrangements to pay you JSA, which itself depends on your contribution history or financial situation if you have not paid sufficient contributions to receive JSA.
How old are you, by the way?0 -
You can apply online via the Launch button at the bottom of this page: http://www.dwp.gov.uk/eservice/#
I think that you will be interviewed, so you can discuss the reason for leaving then.Who having known the diamond will concern himself with glass?

As you were an employee and paying Class 1 under PAYE, I think that you apply for contribution based, assuming that you have paid enough in the last 2 tax years.Who having known the diamond will concern himself with glass?

I presume i have paid enough as been solid working 40 hours with no loss of work for last 20 years0
