We've started a limited company, and through this we have taken on an existing weekend event, and plan to do several more in the future, throughout the year.
We need an accountant.
I have never hired an accountant, and don't know how to make a decision on who is going to be right for our business. I'm not even sure of the right questions to ask. The two we have visited blinded us with science, so I know that I don't want to deal with them. It's not that I'm stupid, but I do like knowing the whys and wherefores and what we can do to help ourselves. I'd also like a ball-park figure of what the fees are likely to be so I know what is reasonable.
I do know that what I want for our firm is probably the usual suspects of minimising tax, paye and nic. burdens on the business. We'll also need to do yearly returns, and payroll. (For around 15 people over a period of 2 months, then just one person - me, as director for the rest of the year)
How do I find the right match? Aaaaaargh. It sounds like a dating service is needed! :) I don't just want to take a shot in the dark and hope for the best. With the internet, I don't suppose it's too important that they are local, but I do live in Scotland, so perhaps there are different rules and regs here than in England, Wales and NI.
Can anyone help?
