Cifas- can anyone give any advice on this

So here is the dilema... I got a mortgage with Halifax 9 months ago, in the terms it states the mortgage is portable. So me and my partner think we do want to move house, as unable to settle where we are. We go to halifax then agree print all the form etc out, and say hold on somethings come up on CIFAS! we need to investigate, and get back to you. Two weeks later they say something is registered at your mothers address(i've never lived there- only had mail going there for a few months while i was a student) And what ever it is was from oct 2008- so why did it not show up 9 months ago at the first application? My application has been declined... no explanation nothing. Yet i received a loan 3 months ago from natwest, i have both my experian and equifax reports here and nothing shows up under CIFAS in actual fact my credit is in the good rating!

Can any one shed any light on this?

Many thanks
