in Cutting tax
According the HMRC web site (hmrc dot gov dot uk / working / intro / employed-selfemployed.htm ) if you are both employed and self-employed, your personal allowance before getting taxed gets used up with the income tax paid in your employment, and so you pay the 20% on everything in yourself employment, in my case I earn very little in the self employment.
But, I used the calculation form in the back of the document with the Short Self Assessment Form and it came out that I owe no tax. I checked it twice and checked This seems really odd. Is there any explanation or have I just used the calc form wrong?

Depends how much you are earning in employment and the code used.
In an ideal world what the site says is right. However its not unusual for people to have a BR code at their employment and have their personal allowance in effect at their self employment.
whats your earnings and we'll check it.

On the face of it, there is a repayment of £155.40. However, was there anything else in your code number for the year which may have reduced your allowances, eg an underpayment brought forward from a previous year, a benefit in kind, for instance?£705,000 raised by client groups in the past 18 mths :beer:0
