I'M CONFUSED.COM! 3 insurance companies have shown up on my credit report?

I have started to check my credit rating in the last six months. I have been using Experian.(Online)
Anyway I was browsing for car insurance and I used one of them supermarket. com thingy's. And well a day or so later Experian emailed me to say there were changes to my report...so I checked, and three insurance companies had given me a credit check. I didn't ask for that!? If I had known, then I wouldn't have used the site. Why did they check me? I would expect one if I actually went ahead and actually BOUGHT the insurance with those particular companies.
Well, now I have 6 credit searches on my report. 3 from them and 3 others that I went on to accept and get. A computer, a credit card and an account with a mail order company. All of which I pay regular and the balances are low etc.
So then I went ahead to buy my Credit Score report. It was 775? Is that good or bad? Experian says it's fair-good? But what does it REALLY mean? I have TWO defaults? Surely it should be really poor? AND it said it would be better except that I had so many searches-THANKS to the insurance checks!! And I'm not on the electoral (which I didn't know and have sent off for my registration for that)
(My two defaults are from 4-6 years ago. Ones due off in March and they are classed as satisfied? Whatever that means)
Anyway does anyone know HOW to get the Insurance company checks off my report? I wouldn't mind if I was actually gonna use them.
Any help on this matter will be REALLY appreciated. Thankyou:j

775 is fair/good
its out of 1000, so you will see you are fairly high.0 -
I wouldnt worry about searches from insurance companies - I have them on mine. They are only an Identity check and wont be seen by other lenders.
Also, in reality, you score means naff all - all companies use their own criteria to see if they are prepared to lend money. No Longer works for MBNA as of August 2010 - redundancy money will be nice though.
