Another warning to compare prices.....

Yes I can understand that, but in Morrisons the bunches of bananas have their own price labels. I often count the bananas in the bunches to get one extra for the same price. Smaller bananas I know, but that's fine by me.
I think that price per kg should be on the National Curriculum don't you?
I do that if I buy packs of salad tomatoes, I'd rather have 6 slightly smaller ones than 5 bit bigger ones...
But I have started comparing price per kilo lately... it is very hard though as the packeted stuff doesn't always have the per kilo price on (ie it might say per fruit instead) and even on the loose stuff the price per kilo labels aren't always there..
Do Morrisons even have scales, I can't recall seeing any? I only noticed in Asda this week they do have the old fashioned hanging scales for customers to use. I like the ones Waitrose have where you weigh and print your own label.0 -

Yeah Sainsbury's do this with for example their Basics Bananas. So I pick up a bag, select the loose banana's on their scales and check that the price I am paying for them bagged is still cheaper than buying them loose. Still is so far.......I have a gift for enraging people, but if I ever bore you it'll be with a knife

I checked this morning and they have two sets, one near the fruit and the other near the veg.
I walk past them every day, but couldn't remember seeing them!I only noticed in Asda this week they do have the old fashioned hanging scales for customers to use.
That's the type they have in Morrisons too.0 -

With bannanas you would be worse off with a kilo of say 6 small ones as opposed to a kilo of 4 large ones as you would have more skin and less bannana per kiloAKA: PC

I noticed in Mr T on Friday night big display of John West tuna at £3 , thought I'll check the normal place for tuna Princess tuna is half price at £2.69
Woman told me that tuna is £3 on the end aisle (which is lovely) but then didn't seem to understand that I was paying less it just wasn't advertised as much as John WestMortgage Aug 12 £165K, Aug 19 £0

This is very true, but there's more to life than the amount of banana per kilo.
You could have 6 kids all wanting a banana each in their lunch boxes. Or you might just want to eat one per day, so 6 will last longer than 4.0 -

Actually, that's not strictly true. They have to display prices per kilo by law, what they don't have to do is display the prices of each individual joint, though some butchers do.
The big advantage of a butcher is that they will trim all the fat off before they weigh the meat and, if you ask, they will give you back the fat free as you need some fat to cook the meat. In tesco you are billed for the fat as well as the meat. Also there is noone there to tell you "we've got a lovely bit of rump in at the moment sir", you have to make your own choice. Moreover, a butcher will cut the meat according to how much you'd like to spend whereas in tesco if they don't have that size joint you have to either spend more or get a smaller joint than you want.[strike]-£20,000[/strike] 0!0 -
This had me worried, I picked up a 1.5kg value bag of bananas in Tesco the other day, they were greener than the ones on display for 77p per kilo, they were £1.14 - works out at 76p per kilo though.
What really annoys me is when they do things by numbers - I had to spend about 5 minutes weighing the bags of cooking apples to get the best value! I generally find the bagged ones are in better condition and keep better than the loose ones so I get a bag if I need a few. They are mostly cheaper anyway, especially if you get one of the bags that is over 1kg!
Just wish Tesco would have more sets of scales - I think the one near the apples is the only one in our store! I suspect people buy more if they can't conveniently weigh things. What is this life if, full of care, we have no time to stand and stare0 -

I just checked too, there's one hanging up by the tomatoes, how didn't I noticed that before! It is quite high up though.
I just looked again and I think the price per kilo really should be displayed against all veg whether loose or packaged as it's on some and not others.0
