Alternatives to binliners/plastic bags

Hi,

I'm very new to recycling and not sure what to do with the stuff I can't recycle. I'm not able to compost so just pop my waste in a carrier bag and in the big communal bin but I know this isn't a great option either. My kitchen is in with my lounge so can't leave things lying around for days as they will smell. Any ideas? Thanks.

Neutradol powder (pound shops) can also be used in bins and is really effective: the only thing I won't leave in the bin in the flat is meat scraps. Not sure how 'green' Neutradol is so you could try bicarbonate of soda or this:

For bin liners I use these from Wilkinsons, good price and very sturdy:

Wrap stuff in newspaper & put it in your outside bin before it starts to smell.

I keep bags that loo rolls come in & use those as bin liners & empty my bin regularly. It's amazing how, even though you're really careful, how many wrappings that can be used as bin bags/liners. Even though I try to cut down on packaging it's just about unavoidable.
I'm lucky in that I have hens & a compost bin & cats for meat scraps so I only really bin plastic - and that's because there's no recycling facility here for that.
