A question for people that work in HR

Okay, so one of the things I have always wanted to work in.. is HR
All of the jobs I see advertised are for 'experienced' HR people, I never see any posts that are willing to train people to become an HR advisor
So, what I'm wanting to ask, is how would I go about getting into HR?

There are a couple of routes.
Either you could study for your CIPD or get a job working as a HR Administrator or Assistant.
The latter route is the first rung on the HR ladder but are not very well paid. Some companies might pay for your CIPD if you are at this level, some may not. You can also study CIPD by distance learning and/or part time.0 -
Hi there, I dont work in HR, but I do know of people who have worked for large companies in another role and once they have proved themselves to be hard working, reliable and for want of a better phrase, not a gossip they have moved sideways into a HR role.
I will say though that once a HR person did tell me it can be a very lonely role because everything is confidential in that role so they were encouraged to not become too friendly with other staff...
Just my opinion for what its worth0 -
I work as a HR manager for quite a large company and didnt start off in HR.
I originally started in accounts as a accounts clerk/purchase ledger clerk. I then moved towards payroll and got my IPPM qualification in payroll which gives a taster of HR. I then started taking on the employee relations part of HR as they link with payroll so started dealing with employee discplinary and grievances.
My compnay has now funded me to do the CIPD course which really is the benchmark for the industry. If you want to be taken seriously for a HR career thats the qualification you need.0 -
Good advice from Mudd14. I know how difficult it is to get into HR and because of that I do not request experience in HR as a requirement for the Admin posts I need to fill in my department. As a result I have had really good admin staff who have studied for CIPD and have gone on to more senior HR roles.
Good luck0
