Annual Leave - part-time equivalent

  • So, I've now worked out that she would get

12 days of basic holiday entitlement, plus 4.8 days of bank holiday entitlement = 16.8 days, which is the same as what a couple of people have suggested earlier in this thread.

My next question is: is she allowed to take the 4.8 days part of her leave any time she wishes, or would she have to take a day off the 4.8 days if a bank holiday fell on a normal working day for her, or would she just get paid and keep the days' holiday?

Usually (but employers vary on this) she'd only have to take leave to cover bank holidays that she would otherwise be expected to work. The rest would be added to her leave.

  • ...or would she simply get paid her usual daily wage in addition to her normal weekly wage whenever a bank holiday occurs?

That means she actually loses holiday (actual time off work) because she would not be working those days in any case.

If a BH falls on one of her normal working days she takes a day off for it. Otherwise she can take them when she likes, subject to her employer's agreement.

Employer can round up but not down, or work exactly. We round up, because working out how to take .8 of a day's leave is a PITA. Some employers do part-time calculations in hours, which simplifies it slightly.
