Pension - Colonial Mutual Group

Hi

My father passed away recently and I found what appears to be a pension certificate amongst his papers. The company is 'Colonial Mutual Group' CML - address PO Box 60, 24 Ludgate Hill, London, EC4P 4BD. Pensionable service is shown as over 20 years and annual pension of £1,895.27. The effective date is shown as 03 February 1988. My father was 66 when he died but does not appear to have been in receipt of a pension relating to this company.

I saw on another post that Winterthur has taken over Colonial Mutual Group, but they have said they can't trace anything. They have suggested I contact Legal and General, which I will do, but in the meantime I was wondering if anyone knows who did buy out Colonial Mutual Group.

I have also written to the Pension Tracing Service, but have not yet received a response. Any suggestions to pin this down would be appreciated.

Thanks
Ellie

The fact it mentions pensionable service of 20 years rather than a pension fund suggests it is an occupational pension. Did your father ever work for Colonial? If so, you wouldnt contact the normal service line for policyholders but contact their HR or pension department (for employees).

I dont know why they suggested L&G.

    Hi Dunstonh

No, I don't think my father ever worked for Colonial Mutual Group, he was a tool maker. I suspect that the pension relates to one of his employments, but as some have gone out of business or have been bought out it is hard to track them down. Also I have not been able to trace up to date contact details for Colonial Mutual Group.

  • Don't know if this is of any help but Colonial Mutual were taken over by Commonwealth Bank of Australia. The UK staff pension scheme is administered by:

Commonwealth Bank of Australia (UK) Staff Benefits Scheme
    JLT Benefit Solutions Limited
    Jardine House,
    6 Crutched Friars,
    London, EC3N 2PH

    Telephone 020 7528 4444

Give them a ring or write, sending a copy of the pension certificate.

Winterthur appear to taken over Colonial's pension business but this would be separate from the staff scheme. CBA may have retained other parts of CM's activities.
