just over 2 weeks after recieving money for PPi Claim natweswt have closed my account

Options
As most of you know Back last year I filed a claim for PPI from natwest. After along struggle. They agreed to pay out and just over 2 weeks ago I recieved the money from them. Now today I have just logged in to online banking to find my joint account has disapeared. I phoned up and all they would tell me is that the account has been closed, but they would not tell me why. When I asked about the money in the account they said I could not access it.There was £3000 which was the money from my claim in the account. I was wanting to move it to my other account today but now can't. What should I do. I have another account that I set up as a parachutte account when started to make claim. But did not get round to moving every thing over to this account. On top of this my husbands wages, child benifits, child tax credits, disability living allowance & careers allowance. Are due to be paid in to this account Next Tuesday. I phoned up the relevent people to change my bank account details for child benifits, child tax credits, disability living allowance & careers allowance. They changed my bank account but said it was too late for this month as payement were already going through. My husband has rushed to work this morning to ask them to wages in to other account but again they say they can for next month but that its too late for this month. So in total in wages etc. I have just over £2000 going in to the natwest account and im not going to be able to acces it. I have no money now thanks to natwest what should I do. I have had no letter from natwest and no warning or notice that they are going to close my account. Can any one give me any advice on what I should do and where I stand legaly. Can they close account just like that with no notice. can they just take all my money and deniy me access to any money going in to the account. Has any one else had there bank account closed after making a PPi claim. If im puting this thread in wrong section I appologise, I did not quite know where to put it.

Any advice would be much appreciated

Thanks in Advance

  • I would contact the FOS URGENTLY on monday and ask for advice and state what you have said on here. I would say that on the onset that it DOES look retaliatory and I think you need to ask the FOS to look at this issue again.
Was any money owed to natwest whatsoever in arrears on loans?

  • no money was owed in arrears I was fully up to date with my loand payments. This is why I don't understand why they are doing this
  • I have sent you a PM but call the FOS NOW as they are open until 6pm today

  • Anybody who jumps to the defense of banks should read this post. This is what the fight against banks is all about. How can they prevent access to this money - it's disgusting and so unprofessional.
  • I do hope you get that sorted out teddybear154 it seems very unfair x
  • (ex) natweststaffmember is right - FOS take a dim view of retaliation, as does the FSA.

Dunno if you can do it now but it worked for me with hsbc, I had 3,000 pound in a account with wages of 1500 going in every month when i was working in car sales, and they closed my account down, but my uncle who helped me to gain a job at abbey said to me to say to them when i investage them(and record the phone convosation) that for the amount of money doormant on the account i want daily intrest incurred for keeping hold of the money, also you are breaching my human cival rights because we all need money to live buy food and your holding on to mine, so for every day that passes i want intrest,

worked for me i got a extra 500 quid out of hsbc,

    also contact fos also,

    hope that helps

I'm just wondering from the response the OP got to hid enquiry if the large amount paid in has triggered the money laundering signals, though I would ahve expected the account to have been frozen.
