Question: If we go into a DMP can we lose our house?0
-
Also the suggetions of switching CC's we've recently
applied for loan and was turned down due to credit rating, surely we wont get a 0% or low % for life CC will we? Also is it worth damaging the rating anymore?0 -
Hi there!
If you scroll downwards from Debt-free-wannabee board you will find many others on different topics - I love the Money Saving Old-Style. Lots of ideas and inspiration about saving money round the house (recipes, shopping etc). Also they do things like grocery and store cupboard challenge - I found it amazing how low you can get shopping bills.
Also I know it's a very small thing but just in case it saves you a few pennies - I buy petfood from the pet shop. A massive sack is much better value and also a good quality brand (lucky the little devil isn't too fussy!)
Good luck!!!0 -
here are some more ideas babe!newleafer wrote:Firstly thank you all very much for your suggestions, i will try and answer as many of your questions as I can remember.
I found out about tv lic today, sucks doesn't it!
Will call sky and cancel, someone said about using dish for freeview, is that via the sky box, do I need a new card? We only bought our house a year ago and we don't have an aerial, but we do have a integrated digital tv set, can sly lead be plugged into tv?{color=red]Yes - once the contract is closed your current card turns into one of their freesat cards do a google search for freesat. basically its freeview through sky! if they cancel the card completely just ring up and they will send you one for a one off charge of £20[/color]
Egg Loan Pyt and Natwest Round the wrong way Egg Loan 271 a month and natwest 457.67 a month. ok so if you have made three payments to your egg loan - you can take three payment breaks so use that money to chuck at a higher APR card
In answer to questions about mortgage we only justed moved to this our first house last year, we moved 120 miles from rented property because property was so expensive to buy there. Our fixed rate perios runs out on the 31st march 07, and if we paid it off early we would owe more than originally because of redemption fee. We only have a small amount of equity like 11K as its a new house and only a year into paying for it.
Something that concerns me is that we may not be able to get a new mortgage at the end of the fixed rate period due to our credit rating, and if that is so our mortgage repayments will go up by £150-200 Chill out about this - youve got 8 months until then and im sure you will be able to get a new mortgage
Hubby still working that distance away due to having not be able to complete full work duties due to awaiting a knee op that he had this year and now he has return to full duties, hence why he is now looking for new job and he earns the better salary, he stays with his nan when at work, so not paying any costs but its hard to food shop for him for there (including lunch) and for me while alone and then for when he is home, I will look at MSOS forum.
Advantage Gold cancellation, I think this helps keep overdraft costs down, also it includes identity fraun ind, ins to cover mobile phone inc call costs(dont have ins on mobiles) amongst others. What do you think? mobile phone insurance is a waste of time - if you loose your mobile, buy a cheap one on ebay and get a new sim card from your company for free! - as long as you report the phone missing before they make any expensive calls then dont worry! - also most people that nick phones wont use your sim, because they can be tracked - they are more likely to just ditch it and keep the phone. Even if it does keep the overdraft costs down - it wont be by as much as £7 a month or whatever it is!
Bt- We hardly use the phone 82.99 in calls in the last year the rest is service charge and cost of caller display-any suggestions?CALLER DISPLAY IS FREE! you do not need to pay for this anymore! - go to the bt website, go to calling features in packages and products and got to BT PRIVACY AT HOME. its free and includes caller display.
Gas/Elec- we recently got conned into changing and its become a long drawn out saga thats still not resolved and its cost us more money, so we are in the process of changing make to our old company and in a few months when I can do a proper comparison I will change it.
What about broadband we have an 8meg line? I was thinking of changing mobile to orange as they have free broadband, but hubby is a bit concerned as the have a limit and he spends hours online gaming, also friends have said reception not great in our area, is there a way of finding out about reception in your area. no orange broadband is not good - you have to sigh up to an 18 month contract with the mobile phone at higher prices. look through the internet forum under phones section of forum for a cheaper unlimited deal!
Life assurance is for mortgage, this is joint cover including critical illness, and was a long drawn out process due to hubby's knee problems, and a back problem I have due to work, it took 5months, it was horrid.!
I think I've cover everything, if not I will post smaller replies.
Thank you everyone for your support and suggestions.

I have just looked up about TV licencing, it appears you do not need a licence if you use your TV solely for watching DVDs/videos. See link.

If this is how you intend to use your tv, newleafer you will be able to save about £10 per month.Fashion on a ration 2025 0/66 coupons spent

If you take funkymonkey's suggestion of taking a payment break on the loan - you could redirect 2 of the 3 egg loan payments to your barclaycard. I know it's not the highest interest but you could clear the card - wait until you get the statement giving a £0 balance - then ask them for a low life of balance transfer and if they'll increase your limit.
Transfer as much as possible off your virgin credit card - then cut up your barclaycard and put it in the drawer - don't spend on this again. Put the 3rd loan payment towards your virgin card. Then contact virgin and ask them to reduce your credit limit so you haven't got all the spare credit on there.Barclaycard CC OH - 1475.50 limit 2000 (apr 19.9%) min pyt 36
Barcalycard CC me - 462.74 limit 1200 (apr 19.9%) min pyt 25
Egg CC OH - 4063.76 limit 4500 (apr 15.9) min pyt 82.63
virgin CC me - 4409.04 limit 6500 (apr 22.4) min pyt 110
Virgin CC Oh - 3491.53 limit 4000 (apr 15.9) min pyt 72
Natwest CC me - 3685.51 limit 3800 (apr 17.4) min pyt 820 -
Newleafer, if you are with BT then caller display can be free for you if you sign up for there FREE privacy at home service which can also block calls from marketing companies. You can then delete the same service that you currently pay for. Heres the link.
