Approaching Companies

I am the club Secretary of a Sports Club and we have been approached by the local University to design and make a website free of charge.

I want to be able to use the site and approach local businesses for sponsorship.

Has anyone ever done this before as I aren't sure about legal rights and even how to approach a company.

Has anyone got a letter template?

I was thinking on the lines of advertising space on the site and a small sign been placed at all home games for a fee.

Any thoughts or ideas will be much appreciated.

Sponsorship is hard to come by in this climate. To get a company to agree to it they are going to want something in return. They will definitely want exposure on the website, at games etc. Maybe offer a main sponsor deal, get that put in a press release, make sure they are mentioned at every opportunity etc.

You should offer different levels so the more they pay the more they get. If you want anymore advice just ask.
