Wardrobe trouble ( Manhattan range )

I ordered a wardrobe from Argos which arrived after 10 weeks!
It is from the Manhattan range, it has a fixed shelf and two rails to hang clothes on, both in a fixed position ( one under the other...). Unfortunately the distance between the two rails is rather small and we cannot hang any of our clothes in that space. ( Discovered this after 4 hours of assembly time!)I have spoken to Argos trying to get details and measurements to see whether this wardrobe had been manufactured incorrectly but apparently the only way to check this is to order a new one. ( They have no measurements for the intenal fittings only a picture that shows the wardrobe ) At the moment this item is off sale and they cannot tell me how long before they can get me a new one - which may not be correct either.
Has anyone had this furniture and was it ok or I am the only one to experience this? What should I do return this and start hunting for another wardrobe or should Argos supply this correctly as shown on the picture in the catalogue?

I bought some of the Melbourne range which is by the same people I think. First lot were all damaged or substandard so had it all replaced; replacement lot were no better so had all that replaced; third lot was just as bad so had a refund. There was an offer on where you got some vouchers (£20) I think so I kept the vouchers for all the hassle they gave me!
Argos furniture = cheap & nasty in my experience.EGG are a bunch of complete bankers!0 -

agree! :eek:0 -
i would say you get what you pay for, cheap isnt gonna be great quality wether its argos, ikea etc.
In fact Ikea quality is generally lower spec'd than argos at a similar price.
I saw some fantastic wardrobes recently at a selection but also some poor looking units0 -
Thanks guys.
I had a second lot delivered since then, which is the same as the first one. At the end my husband re-drilled the holes and re-positioned the shelves and the rails so it is now perferct although it looks like cheese - full of holes on the inside.
( Will try to contact the manufactureres and will advise Argos to modify their picture as they are offering false informtaion )0 -
Yes I have seen it before, i had the same with Wickes with my kitchen furniture ( the plates would not go in the cupboard because of small half cupboards) insist on a refund, you will get it. Don't take any rubbish. Don't despair, keep going to the top until you get it. remember that the law "says, it must be fit for the purpose it is bought for" this is not fit for that. Good luck0

dont get me started on this I have had a NIGHTMARE!
this is a bit long but bear with me its worth it!
Purchased manhattan wardrobe, and 3 chest of drawers from homebase - Oct
When delivered wardrobe had several incorrect pieces meaning it could not be assembled - homebase's response was to give me some brackets and other bits and bobs for a bodge job, when this didn't work i contacted helpline who agreed to send correct parts but would be 2-4 weeks, in the 4th week i called on the monday and was assured would be deliverd on Wed but no delivery so called thursday am - it would be deliverd that day - again no delivery - called again, they were very sorry delivery will be with you monday - monday came and i recieved a partial delivery (stil 4 pieces missing) called again - aditional pieces will be there Wed - they arrived. I tried once again to assemble wardrobe but pieces are still incorrect - base units do not fasten to side panels etc etc. I am absolutley LIVID! I have had this wardrobe in bits in my bedroom for 2 1/2 months now!! Any suggestions of action to take welcome!0 -
A friend of mine has the manhattan range in Maple in her bedroom.
I dont remember her having any problems with it.
She has a wardrobe with mirrors and 3 drawer chest i think.
I'll have to ask her if she had problems putting it together.
It's nice looking furniture BTW!
