I wonder if anybody could help.
I was working up until 31st October 2009 and was the made redundant.
My earnings to that point for the tax year was £17285. I was then on JSA (contributions based) until i signed off and started my new job on 4th January this year.
The job centre couldnt pay me any tax rebate as i had not given them a P45 (this was because our HR processing was off shore and the sla was 6-8 weeks yet i only got it in Jan). My new job pays substantially less (£10335 pa) as it is only 25 hours but i took it as my partner could increase her hours and i was desperate for a job. I got paid today but no tax rebate, my HR person has avised me because i was ticked monthly on the p45 i would need to contact HMRC and they would process this.
What i am asking is based on the above do you think i am entitled to a rebate and if so would i have to wait until April before applying?

Many thanks

Mark

You will be entitled to a refund. Have you given your employer the P45 from your last job? If not, you need to do so.
I think the P45 from the JC shows emergency code, not 'being paid monthly'. You therefore need to ring your tax office and ask them to supply the JSA details to your employer so they can add this to the figures on the P45 and make your refund.

Impossible to say without knowing your tax paid in your old job, the amount of JSA received and your pay and tax to date in your new job.
