Online grocery shopping - authorised approver

I'm looking for an online grocery supermarket who's ordering system will allow my universirty son to place orders for groceries and have the account charged to my credit card. But, here's the smart bit...To avoid him ordering anything he wants for him and his mates, I would like to have an "approver" email sent to me so that I can authorise his order before it's despatched and charged to my credit card.

I've trawled through the Tesco & Sainsbury's websites, but cant find out if they (or others) offer this kind of service.

Does anyone know if this is available ?

Thanks

  • no idea if anyone offers a service like that, but maybe best bet is to let him log into your tesco/sainsbury delivery account, put his order in, then you log in check and then pay. just make sure you don't store you card details so he can't order without you agreeing to what he has ordered. i know you can specify a different delivery addy with tesco so presume you can with sainsbury.

Why not have him sent his shopping list to you in an email, you then order it and have it delivered to his address.

Surely its time he was allowed tostand onhis own feet? O.K I can understand you have to help him fund his studies , but just send him some money or food parcels

    Highly unlikely I'd have thought.

Could you not just share the log in details? So:

    1. He logs in and chooses his products.
    2. He sends you an email telling you he's done so.
    3. You log in, check the list and then order.

Of course to prevent him being able to do the ordering part you'd need a supermarket that gave you the option to not remember your card details, but I imagine there's a reasonable chance that some do that. Alternatively maybe use one of those 'verified by Visa' (or similar) cards that requires you to enter a password.

Update: Oops ignore all this, I now see it was suggested by an earlier poster!!!

Actually there's one fatal flaw in my previous suggestion. With Tesco (and I'd guess maybe the other supermarkets too?) you can still amend your shopping list after you have paid. I guess you could get round that by changing the log in password after you've paid so that your son was then unable to log in and change his order, then tell him the new password once it has been delivered.

    Seems an awful palaver though!

Why don't you just send him a regular allowance so he can go to the supermarket himself and buy his own food? If he chooses to spend the money on riotous living instead, then he'll just go hungry. You might be able to send him vouchers instead which would mean he'd have to spend in-store.
