I'm new to this country. My spouse has just been declared bankruptcy. I'm feeling optimistic and looking forward to a better financial future. Specifically, I'm hoping to buy a home in 5 years or so.
I'm not entirely sure how it works, here, but I do think I may be the primary person responsible for getting the mortgage. I hope to have a pretty good deposit, which should help.
As someone who just moved here, my entire credit history only began in February. And, as a non-citizen, I am not going to be on any electoral rolls.
My bank account does not have any overdraft (which is fine by me) and I have a Barclay visa card with a £240 limit - all they were willing to give me as somebody they didn't know from Adam. I deliberately use it for something small every month and then pay it off in full. I'm not sure if this is good for my credit, or bad.
Does anybody know, and have any advice on how to build good credit history in the next five years or so? Thank you!
