Help from bread bakers please :)

My Mum has a Panasonic bread-maker and has just tried making the malt loaf from the recipe in the book that came with the BM.
She found it wasn't terribly successful - quite dark brown (burnt?) on the corners and very soft in the middle, not enough fruit either.
She's scared of wasting ingredients and doesn't want to try it again, so I said I'd try the clever folk on here as I know there are a lot of you with Pannies.
Can anyone help with an alternative/better recipe please

Hi,
any idea what model your mum has?
I`ve got the SD254 but i`ve never made the malt loaf, i`ve got a fruit loaf in atm but i can`t remember the setting that i switched it onto.
It does have a light/dark setting which cooks a little less or a little more but its not available for all the programs so i`m not sure if its an option for the malt loaf. If it is maybe she had it on the dark setting.
Inconsistencies in the heaviness are usually the batch of flour, last year there were batches about which lots of people had trouble with and many had bad results myself included - maybe she has a bag of this?
Whatever the results i would not waste it, just slice and freeze and use to make toast.

Thank you for the reply. I don't know the model number but it has a thingy in that drops raisins etc into the mix.
Mum's an original MSE'er and true Yorkshirewoman who hates the thought of waste so it won't be thrown away but she hasn't got the nerve to alter the recipe herself and give it a try in case it's even worse. I just wondered if anyone had a fail-safe recipe that they wouldn't mind sharingI let my mind wander and it never came back!0 -
just my opinion but i would make the dough in the breadmaker and then cook it in the oven but i haven't tried making a malt loaf beforeThe mind is like a parachute. It doesn’t work unless it’s open.:o
A winner listens, a loser just waits until it is their turn to talk:)0
