New door handle for a 21 year old Everest door!

Got home from work the other day only to find I couldn't open my front door and the handle just goes round and round. I won't bore you with the series of disasters involved in trying to get in but now I need a replacement handle!

A jobsworth of a guy cam out and looked at it and said 'Everest, can't do anything they won't let me have the parts, ring them and they can't do anything either' and promptly walked away without another word.

Rang Everest who want to charge £150 for a new handle - 'what do you expect, it's 21 years old'.

Well, I Hope to be able to get a new handle a bit cheaper than that, I might as well have a new door for that price. Mr Everest sympathised and said I could try and get my own handle but not through his suppliers 'cos they only sell to the industry. He couldn't tell me the name of the handle but siad that I need one with a grub screw inside and out and a split spindle lock suitable for a 21 year old Everest aluminium door..................I've tried a few places but either they don't know what I'm talking about or will only sell to the industry...............can anyone help?

Try Ebay. You'd be surprised at the selection of door handles. I found ones to match the originals of our 1930 house!

Thanks garret1, I think I might have found something on E-Bay that might fit - anyway its only costing me £25 to try and hopefully it'll save me at least £125.

If it doesn't fit then I'll re-sell it on E-Bay and try again. Its not easy searching for a door handle on e-Bay when you've only gat a description not a name!!
