the bakers used to make this cake that was slices of sponge cake and jam and lurid colouring in a pastry case and sliced up.. think it had some sort of wine, juice or liquid in it to hold it together... like a traybake. i am sure they used to call it paradise slice but i cant find a recipe for it...0

Is this Russian slab or Russian slice? We used to buy it at Thomas the Bakers in York many years ago. It was nice!0

Slighty warm it, and eat it with coffee. Delicious
It's also lovely toasted. Or you could maybe make it into a Nigella-esqe 'plate trifle'. 0 -
russian slice is not quite like the one i was thinking of, but it looks good...0

Make bread and butter pudding with it... it's lush!
