in Cutting tax
History - I had use of a company car up until March 2009. from April 09 i was given a car allowance. However, my company failed to notify the tax office of this and as a result i have been on tax code 141L since April 09
I recently recieved my new tax notification for 10/11 and this is 139L. Again this is showing i have a car allowance when I do not. I have spoken to the tax office and told them i have not had the car since march 09. they informed me my code should be 505L for 10/11 and i should be able to get back the tax i have over paid. They informed me that a new notification will be sent to me and my employer. How long does this usually take?
the problem i have is that it is not an insignificant amount, last year i received £5000 in bonuses in addition to my salary so believe I have overpaid by £1200 approx since last April. how do i get this money back or will my employer repay this once they receive the new notification?
Any advice appreciated

If your employer is notified of a new tax code for 2009/10, providing it isn't on a week1/month1 basis, any under or overpayment will be corrected through the payroll. You should hopefully get your refund via your pay packet either in February or March depending on when your employer receives the notification and when they run their payroll. The fridge is empty, the walls are damp, there's no hot water
