Mortgage options for self-employed & employed couple

Hi all,
Myself and my partner are looking (hoping) to buy a house in the next few months but are unsure as to our mortgage eligibility.
I have been a company director since 2008, earning £7k in the tax year 2008-2009 but nothing in the current tax year as my business closed in November 2009. I have recently become self-employed and am contracting for a company for a monthly fee of £3.8k, and they have guaranteed (in writing) that they have enough work for me for at least 12 months.
My partner is in full-time employment (and has been for two years), and earns £26k.
We have joint savings of £25k which we are going to use as a deposit. We both have excellent credit ratings and have no debts, CCJs etc.
I am concerned that we won't be able to get a mortgage because of my employment history over the past two years, and that I have only recently become self-employed.
Can anyone offer advice on the likelihood of us getting a mortgage in the next few months? Does it help at all that the company I contract for can provide a "statement of intent" for at least 12 months?
Thanks
Matt
