Being taxed 31% on my £250 bonuses - is this correct?

in Cutting tax
Hi there, I need a bit of advice. I am 28, Uk citizen, 1 full time job. I earn £25,000 basic and occasionally earn a £250 bonus. I only receive £172 of the £250 after I have been taxed though - this is a 33% tax which seems a bit much baring in mind I only earn £25K.
Does anyone know if this is correct? I have asked accounts and I only get a shirty response from the girl there "it's what the machine says".
Any help would be appreciated, thanks.

on your marginal earnings e.g your overtime you will be taxed at 20% and you pay NI at 11%0
