I won £400 to spend at Comet

I can't believe it. I just had a phonecall to say I've won the runner up prize of a competition at the petrol station which is £400 worth of Comet gift vouchers. I don't even buy petrol as I don't have a car. I only went in there to buy a pint of milk and they gave me a questionnaire to fill in and send off about their customer service. Best pint of milk I've ever bought :T :T :T :T

Well I've just been on the Comet website for ages deciding what to buy. Do I go for something boring like a new fridge (mine is about 12 years old but still working) or a washing machine (thats 9 years old but also still working). Or do I buy something I can sell on ebay and put into the bank? Or do I blow half of it on one of those lovely multimedia players/camcorders I've been drooling over for ages? What a difficult but brilliant decision to make.2008 Comping ChallengeWon so far - £3010 Needed - £230Debt free since Oct 20040

the sensible part of me says that if it would be a struggle to get the cash together if you found you had to replace the fridge/freezer tommorrow, then you should put the vouchers safely to one side.
if you have budgeted for such an eventuality, i would say either treat yourself and the kids, or save them for christmas (are your kids of an age where they would want mp3 players/ games consoles etc? )
congrats.... you really, really, REALLY jammy person you

actually, ive just thought of a third option; if your appliances arent too old fashioned and are in good working order, you could always replace them with new, and sell the old ones off (that way you would still be a few £ss up on the deal). or freecycle them, and let others share the karma and good luck?know thyselfNid wy'n gofyn bywyd moethus...0

All thats a bit boring though isnt it? I dont believe in replacing anything thats still working. Thats what the manufacturers want you to do. I might save it for xmas.2008 Comping ChallengeWon so far - £3010 Needed - £230Debt free since Oct 20040

Nice one blacksaturn - what a week you have had!!!!"Those who try to make sense of the world are divided into four categories: scientists, theologians, philosophers, and fools. Correction ... make that one category with three sub-divisions" -- Carlo Kensada0
