Freezer in the garage - is it ok?

I personally wouldn't take much notice. I know loads of people who have just bought whichever one they like best and put it in the garage and they've been fine. I'd be interested to know what others say though as I will be looking for a chest freezer for the garage soon.0

I have a Bosch fridge freezer in my unheated porch, when we had that cold spell i realised the stuff in the freezer was starting to go soft, i turned it to high and tried not to open it. Luckily everything appears to be ok, but i think if the weather had stayed at freezing for another week, i wondered if i was to put a small oil radiator or paraffin heater or something, just to take the chill off, would it help.Liverpool is one of the wonders of Britain,

It *is* important you get a freezer rated for outbuildings.
Modern freezers have a more environmentally friendly coolant which doesn't work so well when the room temperature drops below 10 degrees C or so, and they won't work.
There was a thread on this recently - maybe one of the mods could move this thread to it? One poor poster had to bin a whole freezer's worth of food as they had no idea whether it had been frozen or not - their freezer cut out when it was cold, some food defrosted and then refroze.0
