How long is a mortgage offer valid for

Hi There,
I am currently on a variable deal of 5.47 which runs until the end of August, There looks to be some good fixed rate deals about at the moment and I was wondering if I could apply for one now and get the offer in and then take it up in August, How long does the offer normally last for, I have it in my head that its 6 months, in which case I should wait until the end of Feb, correct?

Depends on lender, can be 3-6 months.0

Not may 6 month offers left.
