Money for old rope

My local scout hall has a lot of very old climbing ropes (natural fibres) of the sort we couldn't possibly use for its intended purpose (plus of course all the places we're likely to go climbing actually have the stuff already).
We're thinking of ebaying them off - but will anybody actually bid on them and for what reasons? Any ideas for jazzing them up or making them more saleable?
Got lots of other stuff as well - I think we're going to put an ad in freecycle saying 'come raid our skip' as I believe it is only going to be there the one day before it is picked up and I don't expect people will try dumping into it whilst we're filling it.

There was a TV programme on a couple of years ago where a guy actually sold some old rope on Ebay. Go for it. Maybe someone would want it for swagging for the garden etc.The ability of skinny old ladies to carry huge loads is phenomenal. An ant can carry one hundred times its own weight, but there is no known limit to the lifting power of the average tiny eighty-year-old Spanish peasant grandmother.0

Thats what I like to see! some initative! the more keywords I can put in the text the more chance someone might see it = )
Anyone else got any ideas? = )Tim0 -
If it is natural fibres, it would be useful for making parrot hammocks and climbing toys. Bit of an odd suggestion I know but as I have parrots this is what I would use it for.0

yes it is all natural fibres - looks vaguely like hemp rope to me. Nasty stuff on the hands can't imagine climbing with it tbh...Tim0

I remember the tv prog - I think it was a Trevor McDonald investigation... they decided to see if ebay was a place where you could quite literally get 'money for old rope' and went and found some old scraps on a beach... which then sold!
Just out of curiosity I just typed 'rope' into the ebay search facility and found a piece of old hemp rope, currently selling at £6 and marketed as 'possibly suitable for a children's play area'.....0 -
How thick is it? Could it be used to make bunting for fairs & fetes?Warning ..... I'm a peri-menopausal axe-wielding maniac

Try advertising in the 'Fetish' section. It may be of interest to people interested in Bondage.

Yes, I saw that, it was an episode of The Money Programme, anyway back to the OP.....I'm sure you'll definately sell them but do ensure you quote the correct postage, they could weigh more than you think.0 -
I was thinking of collection only - the postage would be a pain to arrange (definately a courier pick up - some of that rope is really quite heavy!)Tim0
