In relation to a Team Leader (supervisory level reporting to an Assistant Manager) and a business analyst what position is generally recognised as being higher or more senior?

Business Analyst is a very ambiguous term, it can vary from an administrator to a senior consultancy role. Team Leader is also ambiguous, though not as varied as BA.
The answer to your question is, it depends on the structure of the individual business.Gone ... or have I?0 -
What dmg24 says.
Team Leaders are normally the guys/girls that don't mind taking on loads of extra work for not a lot additional pay. They won't get much say in disciplinary matters and decisions that actually matter. However, they may have a fair few people reporting to them.
BAs are very varied. Probably earn a lot more on average than a Team Leader. Probably get input on big decisions but won't really have people reporting to them.
These are quite general and there will be many many exceptions.
I'm guessing OP is a Team Leader and you've given it the big one to a BA and it looks like it may come back to bite you in the backside?0 -

Yes I am a Team Leader, I am currently considering a BA position and I am not sure if this is a forward step or not.0 -
Well, the fact that you seem to be making your decision based solely on which one is deemed as more senior, and don't really seem to understand why you can't compare the two suggests that you're probably not fit for either.0
