I don't think it can be leagaly held against you, but you want to be seen as willing as a mark of unwillingness may be held in the mind be there a problem later.

You're on short notice here for finding out what they intend, they might not want you to work extra hours and they may have directly contacted someone to turn up when your shift finishes - you just don't know and shouldn't have to find out on the day that the plans you cancelled were in vain and you're not wanted.

I would suggest your first step would be an email or given the short notice a phone call (jot down what you want to say first, or at least the outline of points to raise/questions to answer) asking for clarification as to how exactly they intend their change in opening hours to affect you (state your current shifts) - as you have a regular arrangement regarding (lifts/after work activities, a regular personal appointment, weekend club) - I would also suggest asking when they expect this change (directly to you) to take effect (do they have anything else planned for this first weekend as you have a lift scheduled for your regular finishing time?) and do they have new contracts to reflect this change/salery increase or would it be classed as over time earning TOIL?

I would also suggest you explicitly include a line saying you're concerned as to what they might expect in short notice and would appreciate a quick reply as you may need to reschedule some prior appointments.

If they don't respond within 24 hours (given only 3 days notice) you then have the reasonable get out (for this weekend anyway and only if you want it) that you're very sorry and are more than happy to accommodate their needs next week, but you now have too little time to reschedule your appointment for this weekend as you can't get hold of the person involved. It's amazing how those with a can-do attitude and willingness to 'pitch in and work' get all the luck, isn't it?

I would imagine the company will be proposing that each employee work 6.5 hours each on the saturday with an overlap for a break. Remember they have been flexible with the 13 hour shifts. They could be less flexible going forward if you are.
