The six month rule?

My son recently sold his house, leaving him a deposit of £100,00 for a new place. Found somewhere for £250,00 and was accepted for a Halifax mortgage for the balance. He's got an immaculate credit record and is a pretty good risk - good earner, NHS employed, etc. etc. Then he discovered that the owners had bought the house less than six months ago, are leaving the country (for his job). Halifax won't issue a mortgage for such a sale, so he went through a broker to Alliance & Leicester, who only have a three month rule. But it's been queried because his credit check has shown that Halifax have run a check on him in the last few weeks so he thinks it now may be in jeopardy and that he might be refused.

It seems v. sad if this is the case, as he's a solid investment.

Any views?

He is worrying unnecessarily. Whilst it shows on his file, 2 checks in 6 months is not going to raise any alarm bells.
