deep fat fryer

currently use a deep fat pan on the gas cooker to fry chips etc. am fed up of grease marks it leaves around the surrounding area.

i know there are fryers which run off from the electric socket. are they good? do they leave greasy marks around the area?

can anyone recommend a cheap one.

thanks
Problem with having access to internet is that i get asked by many to solve their problems :( Well at least i learn something on the way :D

    Hello wazza

If you listen to any fire fighter or fire officer, they all say how dangerous chip pans can be............and they all recommend deep fat fryers instead. On that basis alone, I'd say yes they are good...........and you should get rid of your chip pan.;)

My DH is in the fire service and at several points throughout the year; they have the "get rid of your chip pan" campaigns and if you take your old chip pan into the fire station, you can exchange it for a deep fat fryer. There's no charge for this and it's just whilst stock is available, so it's worth phoning your local fire station to see if and when they do it. ;)

They also have days where you can take in your electric blankets and they will give them a safety check; it it fails the check, you can get a free new electric blanket too.

......and whilst you're there, you can get smoke alarms (and sometimes carbon monoxide alarms). You can ask for someone to come to your house for a fire safety check and they can help you plan an escape route in case of fire.

    .

funny you should mention the fire birgade. i asked them to come to my home to do a check. they installed two smoke detectors free of charge and did a fire risk assesment evaluation of the whole house. they did mention the dangers of using chip fan. they will provide you with a fryer in exchange of your pan as long as you fall in a high risk group. fortunately i was in a medium risk cos of chip pan.

We've used Tefal fryers for many years with great results. They are much cleaner and safer than a pan on the hob!

I'm mad!!!! :rotfl::jand celebrating everyday every year!!!
  • Cookworks Signature Stainless Steel Twin Pro Fryer. it seems to be a bit of a bargain but please be aware that this frier takes 6 litres of oil each time you have to change it, and cooks 3 Kg of food but at that capacity it is good for a large family it also comes with three baskets two small and one large as i bought one awhile ago take it from me it works out rather expensive.

We use a tefal rotary frier which uses less oil as it turns the chips round within the basket dipping them through what little oil it uses, and cleaning it is easy as there is a little spout for draining. We tried the square friers with lids but it didnt seem too safe and use a lot of oil. I got ours from costco and saved £15 compared to the high street prices.
The more i save the more i can spend:rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl:
  • i used to have a delonghi one which i liked as it had a draining hose thingy to empty the oil when cleaning....got a tefal one just now which does the job however when its needing replaced i will be looking at one with a removable bowl for easier cleaning (they can be pain to clean.)
    :)
