Supermarket Night Shfit Job

Am going to try and get a night shift job in Tesco (Stacking the shelf)
Night shift because it pays more and fits in with my body clock...

Thing is they never have any vacancies checked about 3 in my area.

1. So should I download the form and post it to them?
2. Should I put in a cover letter asking them to keep me on there records? (Since they have no vacancies)
3. In the section about hours I can work I wrote "Able to work any time and any day" will this increase my chances?

4. Any one here have a night shift supermarket job?
Could you tell me your daily actives.. eg. Start at 10pm, check this and that, get cage, brake for 20mins, finish at 6pm etc...

5. Anything else I should know?

The supermarket I work for has just let a lot of Christmas temps go and they are on the waiting list in case any positions come up...which won't be until April anyway as the staffing budget has been allocated for the rest of this financial year.

Easter is the next big push for taking on temps, so actually don't be downhearted as now is a good time to start applying. And the temps that are most flexible are the ones most likely to be taken on permanently.

Downloading a form and posting it in won't hurt but you really want someone on the inside. Where I work we knew exactly when the jobs would be posted online, so although it is open to everyone if you can get your application in before they close the flood gates all to the good.
  • I work for a retail shop in the personnel dept , we keep all applications for 6 months to see if we can fit them in when we need a new member of staff , so i see no harm in sending a application in and its also good to put in any availability as it will increase you chances , our night shift tend to work either a 845pm to 730am in the morning 4 nights a week or 11pm - 8am 5 nights a week , they also get 1hr 30mins break inbetween , also note night shift are not allowed to smoke as they have to stay on the premises during breaks from when the sgm leaves at night until they arrive back in the morning , hope this helps and good luck :)

OP from my epxerience of working night shift with a competitor it went something like this, first week or 2 you would help someone else out and they would make sure you were doing the job correctly then after say 2 weeks you would be assigned a section eg home baking, tinned food, dog food eg like the sections are laid out in a store, and you would continually work the stock for your given area eg you would have 4 cages of stock to get through. If you were to finish by say 6am then if you still have time left then you would help out another colleague until your time is up. Just remember you cant be slow as they give each person an estimate of how many cases they think the the staff could get through. Tesco could work in a differently though
