in Cutting tax
I will need to a self assesment for this current finacial year after april (I think they send the stuff in sept to pay by 31st jan). I want to budget the money I will have to pay on tax into a seperate account so it is ready to pay. I need to use any left over money asap to pay part of my over draft, or at least work out roughly what i will owe and keep adding to the seperate account as and when.
I currently do on line surveys and have registered as self employed.
Apparently apart from the bumph at the start of the form it should be a simple 3 line tax return
Earnings
Expenditure
(Earnings - Expenduiture) * N% = tax owed

- What percentage it tax usually worked out at?
(it is small earnings so I will probably be lucky to get £400, currently at £320 and finding it hard to hit the minimum amount to claim - Mind Mover hasd been stuck at £17 for months!!) - My only expense is really broadband, What is a "reasonable" amount to claim. As in all or part of bradband cost? Looking at my virgin bill this is £20 a month but i get a discount for getting my TV, Phone and broadband. So the bill is usually £38 per month. I averaged it as £13 per service. I would say that 3/4 my time on the internet is spent doing surveys so would I claim £10 per month as an expense for this? Would that be classed as reasonable?

Do you have a PAYE job? What tax band do you currently fall into?
Broadband - if you have an income of only £400, claiming expenses of £120 for your broadband seems pretty high to me.0 -
if you are working from home you can also claim a proportion of household bills (for heating / water etc). also any stationary you might need to keep a track of what you are doing (printer ink, paper, pens and notepads). Those who will not reason, are bigots, those who cannot, are fools, and those who dare not, are slaves. - Lord Byron0

Broadband is pretty much the only expense. I am wary of claiming heating and lighting. I am sure there was a reason why last time i filled one in (over 4 years ago). From what I remember the detail isn't actually listed on the return.
last time i did a tax return I didn't have broadband I only had dial up so it was easy to see from the phone bill.
I just wondered what other people who did online surveys claimed as broadband expenses.0
