As an extra level of protection I use a specific DNS server, instead of my providers one. This particular DNS server has the capability of blocking a range of unwanted sites. The range it blocks is what you choose. It is free for home users. The one I use and trust is dyndns(dot)org. This is the one that netgear suggest in their setup if you have a netgear router.
one thing that few mention is yahoo mails' disposable email addresses each time a website forces me to enter an email address I create one just for them. These email addresses all start the same and end the same but there is a bit in the middle which you change. lets say my prefix is gillible1- and I want an email for this site I create it in yahoo, putting MSE in the middle My disposable email I enter on the site is gullible1-mse(at)yahoo.co.uk. They all get received into my main yahoo account.
If I start getting too many spam emails on that address I can just delete it, without it affecting my other email addresses or the main account.0
