40ppm mileage rate - pro-rata?

As the 40ppm mileage allowance only applies to the first 10,000 business miles per year does this have to be pro-rata'd if I have only been SE for 3 months of the tax year?
e.g on 6000 miles
10,000 * 3/12 (2500) @ 40ppm then the rest at 25ppm = £1875
or
all 6,000 @ 40ppm = £2400
Hope this makes sense!
