in Cutting tax
Okay, so on 1st April 2009 I lost my job at a bank, due to them laying off some temporary staff.
Unfortunately I didn't get a job again until July 28th, where I worked until August 4th, and this other company let their temp staff go (I know, not much luck)
Thankfully, I got a permanent, full time job which started on September 1st 2009.
I was on jobseekers from april until september (with the break of july 28th - august 4th) and was wondering if you think I'd be able to claim tax back, since I haven't worked for most of the year?
My tax code is 647L

Your tax code being operated by your latest employer will in most cases give you back any tax overpaid and ensure things are correct at the end of the tax year.
So probably not is the answer.0 -
tells us from your last payslip
your total pay to date
your total tax to date
which month the figures arevfor
is your 'total pay to date' correct and includes your JSA as well as salary0 -
Don't have my payslip with me at the moment (it is online at work) so will get more accurate details tomorrow.
But my total pay to date is around £4700House Fund: £750.00

Figures are for JanuaryHouse Fund: £750.00

if you total income to date is 5833 for the 10 months of this year then your tax ought to be about £88 so far
Are your sure your tax code is 647L ... if there anything like M1 or noncum or any numbers or letters after it.0 -
Copy and pasted:
This month:
Basic Pay: 1,166.67
Tax Paid: 125.20
National Insurance: 75.64
Year to date:
Gross Taxable pay: 5,833.35
Tax: 626.00
Tax code & basis: 647L 1
House Fund: £750.00
Wins for 2010: 00 -
647L 1 is an emergency tax code which is non accumulative
did you give your employers your P45 when you started the job ?
presumably 5833 are your earning in this job and not your total income including JSA for the whole tax year?0 -
I didn't have my P45 when I started, I lost it.
I filled in a P46 though...
It dosent include my JSA
How do I get off the emergency tax code???? And does this mean I've been paying too much tax?House Fund: £750.00
