    Does it not say why
The only thing that is constant is change.

I would phone them up and ask. I have my tax code split between two jobs and when my new code came recently they had completely changed the way it was split. I phoned them up and had it changed back to how it should be.

Have your national insurance number handy when you phone because they ask for it but it is on the coding notice I think anyway.

The letter is a P2 (Coding Notice)? And should detail why £3340 of allowances has been witheld.

If it doesn't make sense ... then it probably is a mistake. As these are the first Codes issued by the new HMRC PAYE system ..... and several similar posts on here indicate it's not exactly getting it right first time!

Please don't call HMRC until after 31st January there will still be plenty of time to sort it before the start of the new tax year.
The lines are extremely busy at the moment with people needing help at the last minute to get their tax returns done and others with similar queries as yourself.
