Question about deposits and outstanding debt...

I am wondering whether it is possible to use the money we have saved for a deposit to pay off outstanding debts and then apply for the mortgage with the debts paid off. Then take the money back out to use as the deposit... Is that possible? Surely it's above board as it's just my money being swapped around... FYI it would be used to pay and OD off....
