Carer's allowance and allowed work

I wonder if someone would be kind enough to advise aboout the possibility of claiming CA and working variable hours/days. I understand that the weekly after deductions wage has to be below £95 but what if there are some weeks with no income at all and then some where the total is above? I think specifically of supply teaching.
Also - are any monies claimable to show necessary expenses against work? I read somewhere that supply teachers were able to average their earnings - is this an annual average?
Thanks in advance.
