Hi All
I completed the purchase of a house at the end of November, the house has been empty/unoccupied from that date up until and including now.
Today a rates bill arrived, there is 171.60 due by 17th February.
Can this bill be deferred as the house has been empty and how often do rates bills get issued?
Thanks in advance.

Hi,
I too recently purchased a house and when mine came through it said on it "period from Xth September to 31st March" or words to that effect. So my bill was from the time I moved in to the end of the rates year - would yours be the same?Regards, Robin.2011 MFW # 34

I'm not sure to be honest as this is all very new to me, I have as of yet to move into the house and there are no wheelie bins at the house so I am hoping that the rates office will cancel my bill.0 -

You'll need to call them and let them know your not there, if the house is furnished I'm afraid you will be liable for the rates. They may ask for proof of non occupation - usually NIE usage report showing little or no usage for the period.

Have you been living in your property since September? Again same as the other poster, if the house is furnished your liable, if it's vacant and unfurnished, you'll probably require proof
